European Studbook (ESF) for Tribolonotus species

Sorry for writing in Englisch but my German is to bad. I can read it but writing is not my best thing.

Last week I received approval to start a International Studbook for Tribolonotus species, under the supervision of the ESF (European Studbook Foundation). This Breeding Program is in it's starting fase and I am looking for keepers of Tribolonotus species who would be interested in participating with this breeding program.

The aims for the breeding program are to make sure there is a vital population in captivity. To better understand the behavior of these animals by sharing knowledge and information, etc etc.

It is also possible to register animals for the Studbook online, go to the website of the ESF - www.studbooks.org -

Leider kann ich mein Anliegen nur in englisch vorbringen, da mein Deutsch nicht gut genug ist. Ich kann es zwar lesen, aber Schreiben ist nicht meine Stärke.

Letzte Woche erhielt ich die Zustimmung zur Einrichtung eines internationalen Zuchtbuches für Tribolonotus Arten. Das Programm ist somit in der Anfangsphase, und ich suche Züchter, die Interesse an der Teilnahme und Einrichtung des Zuchtbuch-Programmes haben.

Das Ziel des Zuchtprogrammes ist die Sicherstellung einer überlebensfähigen Population in Gefangenschaft, sowie der Austausch von Infomationen und Wissen über das Verhalten der Tiere zum besseren Verständnis.

Es ist auch möglich, Tiere für das Zuchtbuch online unter www.studbooks.org. zu registrieren.

Silvia, It would be beautiful if you take part since you have a female of T. gracilis who "likes" to put 2 eggs, and this is unusual in my opinion.

An update from the studbook.

I've translated this with an translator so sorry for the bad German.
The Tribolonotus gracilis studbook is approved by the European Studbook Federation (ESF). We only have some problems with the email adres that the ESF gave to us so you can't register at the moment.

My other point, the ESF wanted to see a seperate proposal for Tribolonotus novaeguineae. I've got 1.2 T.novaeguineae myself at the moment and they just layed there first eggs(!!!) unfertile but there laying. So i'm trying to find as many people as possible to start the T.novaeguineae studbook, i think with this rare species it is very important to get a studbook.

So I would be very happy if people who keep T.novaegiuneae would contact me or if you know people that have this species i would be glad if I can get in touch with them.

Also for the people that want this species, there is a breeding pair for sale in The netherlands at the moment, if there not sold (there at a reptile shop) before monday they would be sold to an shop in alkmaar (that has a very bad reputation ) So i'm hoping that we/I can save these 2 for the studbook.

You need 10 bloodlines for a proposal and I have three now at the moment (my one) So I hope someone can help me to get in touch with other keepers/breeders of T.novaeguineae

Ich habe dies mit einem Übersetzer übersetzt damit sorry für das schlechte Deutsch . Der Tribolonotus gracilis studbook wird vom europäischen Studbook Föderation (ESF) genehmigt. Wir haben nur einige Probleme mit der E-Mail adres, die der ESF zu uns gegeben hat, Sie können nicht registrieren im Augenblick.

Mein anderer Punkt, der ESF wollten einen seperate Vorschlag für Tribolonotus novaeguineae sehen. Ich habe 1,2 T novaeguineae mich selbst im Augenblick und sie haben nur dort zuerst Eier gelegt (!!!) unfertile aber dort Lage. So versuche ich zu finden als viele Leute als möglich, der T.novaeguineae studbook, ich, mit diese seltene Spezies zu denken, dass es sehr wichtig ist, einen studbook zu erhalten.

So ich wäre sehr glücklich, wenn Leute, die T.novaegiuneae behalten. mir kontaktieren würde, oder wenn Sie Leute kennen, die diese Spezies haben, die ich wäre froh, wenn ich mich in Verbindung mit ihnen setzen kann.

Auch für die Leute, die diese Spezies wollen, gibt es ein züchtendes Paar zum Verkauf in Der Niederlande im Augenblick, wenn dort nicht verkauft (dort an einem Reptilladen) bevor Montag sie zu einem Laden in alkmaar verkauft werden würden (das hat einen sehr schlechten Ruf) So ich hoffe, dass wir/ich diese 2 für den studbook sparen kann.

Sie brauchen 10 Stammbäume für einen Vorschlag und ich habe drei jetzt im Augenblick (meines ein) So ich hoffe, dass jemand mir helfen kann, mich in Verbindung mit anderen Wärtern/Züchtern von T zu setzen. novaeguineae

Are you sure, that T. novaegiuneae is a valid species? Any pholidose diagnosis available? Isn`t it possible, that they are just a pattern variation of the T. gracilis? All T. novaegiuneae I have seen (only in the pet trade and one at the Senckenberg Museum) seemed to be very much the same as the T. gracilis.

Hello Karsten.

Till now T.novaeguineae is a separate species. Some scientist believe that there just one and the same species but there is no proof of it. (yet).
There are quit a few differences between these species. So does T.novaeguineae doesn't have the orange eye ring. there basic colour is not that dark brown that T.gracilis has. And they don't get that large as T.gracilis, My adults are not longer than 15 cm and weighing not more than 19 grams as my T.gracilis are around the 50grams. I think that a lot of T.gracilis are misidentified as T.novaeguineae at the moment. So does an Australian Museum published a picture of T.gracilis as T.novaeguineae. And i even suspect that a Denmark zoo has T.gracilis misidentified as T.novaeguineae.

But until a scientist is willing to do a research on this subject these are two different species.

My personal opinion, i think that it are two different species, there are to much differences, if there the same you must also look at T.ponceleti who has many characteristics of these two species. But i'm trying to contact a few herpetologist who has done research on Tribolonotus gracilis and T.novaeguineae.
